Normally, fish tastes better if it is freshly made and also is high in nutrients. Fish gets spoiled quickly if kept in warm conditions and hence should be stored in cool place. A fresh fish can be stored for about a week in the freezer. Hence, you need to make sure that the fish you bought is absolutely fresh and can be stored for that long. Mostly it is not advisable to keep fish uncooked for long. But if you have to, then make sure it’s freshly brought in the market and store it in a very cold temperature, completely covered by crushed ice if possible.

But no matter how it is cooked, chicken must not be kept for long. Cooked chicken does not last for more than a single day when kept in the open, while the shelf life of cooked chicken increases slightly if it is refrigerated properly. Cooked chicken lasts the longest in freezer. If kept in freezer, cooked chicken can last for at the most two days.

The shelf life of canned food is at least 2 years from the date of manufacturing. The safety and nutritional value of canned food is maintained well after 2 years too, but variation in color and texture of the food can be noticed. Canning is procedure of sterilizing the food by high-heat method. Canned foods can be kept on shelf or in pantries for lengthier durations without any issue of food safety. Indeed when kept in moderate temperatures like 75 degrees Fahrenheit and below, canned food shelf life is indefinite. It won’t be recommended to keep canned food for too long, but if the can is undamaged, not spoiled or swollen, then it is fit for human consumption.

Chicken rings a bell in everybody’s stomach. But proper care must be taken while storing this delectable item. Ideally, chicken should be kept in the freezer. Raw chicken, if kept in the fridge, could last for three to four days, subject to the temperature conditions it has been subjected to during transportation. On the same hand, cooked chicken, does not last for more than one day in the fridge. And then too, you must make sure that you store the chicken in the coldest part of the fridge. Doing so makes sure that no bacteria forms in the chicken.

Sour cream is a popular accompaniment, especially in the western countries. Sour cream does not have a fixed shelf life. Like most other dairy products, sour cream can comfortably last for up to a week from the date of expiration. In case it is opened and refrigerated, sour cream can be had for as long as it tastes good. However, given its sour taste, it is difficult to tell when sour cream turns bad. In case you notice any mould formation on the top layer of the sour cream, it is best to throw away the whole container.
