There are diverse types of food poisoning. The amount of time your body takes to digest the infected food determines how long the food poisoning symptoms take to surface. Depending upon the kind of food poisoning you may develop, the timeframe may vary. Normally food poisoning symptoms can be experienced just after two or six hours of food consumption. But in some cases you may develop the symptoms after as long as couple of days or as quickly as within few minutes. The severity of food poisoning may lead you bed-ridden for few days and some may just need mild medicinal doses to get cured.

There are different meat products like beef, ham etc. And each of them has their own shelf life. Meat should ideally be stored in the freezer at 0 degrees Fahrenheit. On an average, meat stored in the freezer can last for six months. The prerequisite however is to wrap it properly while storage to prevent it from meat burn.

It all depends on what you have eaten. Some food get digested very fast whereas some may take longer than normal time. Normally digestion takes about 24 to 72 hours. Fluids and carbohydrates get digested very easily. Whereas proteins and fatty stuffs take much more time to get digested than others.

After having a meal, the food passes through the stomach and then through your intestine which may consume up to 7-8 hours.

Then it enters your large intestine and after 24 hours, residual food is discarded by the body. Hence, the entire digestion process takes considerable amount of time.

Depending upon the atmosphere, bacon may stay edible for three to ten days. It also depends on the temperature you keep bacon in and the way it is packed. If you refrigerate bacon in a zip lock pack then it may remain unspoiled for up to three weeks. However, it also depends on the quality of bacon, some get spoiled within a week and some remain fresh till two weeks.

More than uncooked, cooked bacon stay up till long. Hence it’s better to store bacon, if required, either cooked or packed properly in the refrigerator. But it is always advisable to consume bacon or any food item as soon as possible. Storing any food item for long is not good for health.

Fish gets spoiled quickly if kept in warm conditions and hence should be stored in cool place. A fresh fish can be stored for about a week in the freezer. Hence, you need to make sure that the fish you bought is absolutely fresh and can be stored for that long. Mostly it is not advisable to keep fish uncooked for long. But if you have to, then make sure it’s freshly brought in the market and store it in a very cold temperature, completely covered by crushed ice if possible.

The shelf life of canned food is at least 2 years from the date of manufacturing. The safety and nutritional value of canned food is maintained well after 2 years too, but variation in color and texture of the food can be noticed. Canning is procedure of sterilizing the food by high-heat method. Canned foods can be kept on shelf or in pantries for lengthier durations without any issue of food safety. Indeed when kept in moderate temperatures like 75 degrees Fahrenheit and below, canned food shelf life is indefinite. It won’t be recommended to keep canned food for too long, but if the can is undamaged, not spoiled or swollen, then it is fit for human consumption.

Raw chicken, if kept in the fridge, could last for three to four days, subject to the temperature conditions it has been subjected to during transportation. On the same hand, cooked chicken, does not last for more than one day in the fridge. And then too, you must make sure that you store the chicken in the coldest part of the fridge. Doing so makes sure that no bacteria forms in the chicken.

Like most other dairy products, sour cream can comfortably last for up to a week from the date of expiration. In case it is opened and refrigerated, sour cream can be had for as long as it tastes good. However, given its sour taste, it is difficult to tell when sour cream turns bad. In case you notice any mould formation on the top layer of the sour cream, it is best to throw away the whole container.
