How long does food poisoning last?

Food poisoning is one of the most common thing people can get. The common symptom includes: diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite and fever. Food poisoning usually starts within few hours after having the contaminated food and could last between 1 to 10 days depending on the type of food poisoning you have.

The most common food poisoning is staph food poisoning which is caused by infection with the Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacterium. Staph food poisoning last within 1 to 2 days at most. Usually, you should only take light diet after the food poisoning to get better faster.

On the other hand, if the food poisoning last more than 1 week and your symptoms include having severe diarrhea, vomiting more than one day or having a intense stomach cramp, you really need to consult a doctor. If you see food poisoning symptoms develop into severe dehydration, dry mouth, increasing heartbeat, dizziness and little or no urination then it is important you immediately go to the hospital.

Remember the harmless food poisoning only last few days and hence if the food poisoning last more than 1 week, definitely go and see the doctor to get proper diagnosed.
